Grading and policies
Grading:
Mastery of skills will be pre-assessed and assessed regularly through a variety of techniques and strategies, including questioning, classroom discussions, quizzes, tests, and written response to literature. Grading is on a cumulative point system, resetting at the semester. Because much of our analytical work will be done either large or small group discussion, participation is critical and will be reflected in individual grades, as will homework completion and a variety of writing and presentations.
Missed/Late Work Policy:
Life happens, and sometimes a student might need to miss class. If a student misses a class period due to an excused absence, the assignment will be due upon return. The student is expected to check the website and find out what they missed. If any questions come up, the student can email me or talk to me in person. Assignments are always expected to be turned in on time. If an assignment is late, it will lose 10% value daily. Late work will not be accepted after five days from the assigned due date.
Grades:
Standards-based:
A – Excellent work, exceeds all standards, above and beyond -- 90% to 100%
B – Good work, exceeds some standards -- 80% to 89%
C – Satisfactory to good work, meets most standards -- 70% to 79%
D – Still working to meet the standard -- 60% to 69%
F - Failing to meet the standard
Proficiency-based (rubric):
Rubric score 4: Exceeding
Rubric score 3: Meeting
Rubric score 2: Approaching
Rubric score 1: Needs improvement/not meeting
Cheating/Plagiarism:
Cheating and plagiarism are extremely serious offenses. If you are using someone else’s words or ideas without giving them credit, it is cheating. There is a zero tolerance policy for cheating and you will receive a 0 for that assignment.
